Lead Generation | 3 Ways To Get Leads On The Internet & Social Media

If you aren’t getting a daily, consistent supply of leads into your home business, then you don’t have a business. You have an expensive hobby.” – Richard Matharoo

Lead generation is the first big challenge for network marketers.

When I started my business, my leads were the 83 people I wrote down on paper the day after joining my opportunity.

When I got through the list, I had 2 pity sign-ups to show for it. So I went to the cold market where leads were even more scarce.

Not a recipe for success!

I am convinced that the internet and social media are the best places to get leads, because an unlimited supply of prospects are brought together in one place. You just need to have a process that helps you get your product, service, or business opportunity in front of these prospects.

Here are 3 online strategies to help you do that.

Active Prospecting is reaching out to people on social media and seeing if they are open to taking a look at your business.

For instance, my friend Erin Birch is a master at this. She was able to build a 6-figure affiliate income in less than 1 year mostly through active prospecting.

It’s better than offline prospecting because you have access to a never ending supply of people by a few clicks of your mouse.

Also, you can do some pre-qualification by searching for folks who are most interested in your product, or business opportunity.

For example, if you wanted to find good prospects for your travel business, then you could do a search for the Travelocity Business Page on Facebook.

You know that people who follow that page are most likely interested in travel, so it’s a really good place to prospect.

You can’t do this with cold market offline prospecting.

The second advantage of online prospecting over offline prospecting is that the rejection is easier. Obviously, it’s an easier deal when someone says ‘No’ to you on social media than it is in person.

Active Prospecting is beneficial because it gives you leads quickly.

Some top earners around have built very successful businesses by prospecting, especially on Facebook.

It’s a great way to get free leads. Keep in mind, you’ll need a sales mindset. So you’ll have to learn to reach out, build relationships and close people into your business.

However, active prospecting is not very leveraged. You are only able to prospect one person at a time. So you’ll have to be prepared to spend hours messaging away to get your leads.

Passive Prospecting is prospecting in such a way that gets people to reach out to you. It’s passive.

As you can tell, it’s a very powerful way to prospect because you are more in control of the conversation. Your prospect already has an interest, so there is less pressure on you as you show them your offer.

What most people try to do on Facebook is passive prospecting. But many people confuse it with marketing.

We will get to marketing shortly.

Passive Prospecting that works

There are several things you can do to “passive prospect’ effectively. What doesn’t work well is posting products, company links, tagging people, and basically branding your company.

Many companies encourage their reps to recruit this way.leads

But here’s the problem.

There are so many companies and products out there that your company and product is caught up in all the “noise”.

Moreover, when you promote your company, people secretly google the company and pre-judge you when they see an article criticizing your company as being a scam.

Instead, here is a great example of how to get folks to ask about your business.

“Hey, I’m so happy I achieved abc result through using xyz! My life is changed. And it’s amazing. I’m loving it.”

This template was used by a single mom, Julie Burke, who has built a downline of 8,300 people and a 6-figure income in 13 months. Her very 1st Facebook Post got her 45 messages from people wanting to know more.

See, it’s about piquing interest. People will be more interested if you don’t give the whole story away. State the benefit of your product. Say or show what your product does, not what it is.

Here are a couple more examples:

[Show before/after photos of someone who has lost weight]

“I lost 30 lbs after I started using this new product, it’s awesome! PM me if you’d like to get some more info.”

“Big congrats to my new business partner Jerry who has gotten xyz result . Keep up the awesome work Jerry!

These posts will cause folks to want to get in on whatever is happening. Because you’ve given a benefit.

And it’s more leveraged than Active Prospecting because you get leads from 1 simple post. It’s an awesome way to prospect!

I’m sure you didn’t get started with your business to be working 24/7.

It’s much more fun to work as little as possible and still build the big business you’ve dreamed of. The only way to do that is by creating leverage.

Typically when we hear the word leverage, we think of leveraged income that network marketing provides. But what many fail to realize is the concept of leveraged leads. How hard are you working to find people to present your opportunity to?

We’ve seen where passive prospecting is more leveraged than active prospecting because you are able to get multiple persons to contact you from 1 post.

The most leveraged way to get leads, however, is through marketing.

Marketing sifts and sorts out the people who are interested in your deal……..and takes them though a process that allows them to get to know you, trust you, and eventually buy from you (or join your team).

So you essentially have an automated business that delivers leads, sales and sign-ups on its own.

Very cool!
